The Partnership for Global Security (PGS) is a recognized international leader and innovator in nuclear and transnational security policy, developing actionable policy responses to 21st Century challenges by working with diverse, multi-sector stakeholders. For the past 20 years, PGS has applied its unique focus and strategic thinking to create timely, authoritative, and actionable policy proposals for busy policymakers that have strengthened international security programs.
Currently, we are accepting internship applications for the Spring of 2025, but we accept internship applications on a rolling basis and are always looking for new interns to assist with research tasks, media outreach, innovative content creation, and production of our weekly news digest publication.

Research Internship
PGS Research Assistants will primarily focus on researching nuclear security, nuclear energy, and transnational governance issues. Current research projects that interns will support include: exploring the nexus of climate change, nuclear power growth and global security; understanding the growth of nuclear energy in the Middle East and East Asia; tracking the evolution of nuclear security policies and governance structures; using existing voluntary frameworks as a model for nuclear security governance structures; and examining cybersecurity and other potential threats prompted by new technology developments.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to assist a recognized non-governmental organization with an ambitious, forward-looking agenda. The intern will work closely with PGS staff and gain experience in research, writing, editing, event planning, coalition building, and communicating about nuclear security, nuclear power, and transnational governance issues.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent in-depth research
- Support and contribute to staff projects with thorough research
- Track relevant updates from key agencies, organizations, and industries, and produce concise briefs
- Represent PGS at meetings and relevant events
- Provide general communications and administrative support, when needed
Qualifications
- Interest in nuclear nonproliferation, nuclear security, nuclear energy, and/or transnational governance issues
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and respond quickly to direction
- Outstanding research and writing skills
- Available to work at least 2 days per week
- Current graduate students preferred

Communications Internship
As a non-profit organization, we recognize the importance of raising awareness among policymakers and the public on issues related to nuclear security, nuclear power, geopolitical risk, and transnational governance. We are seeking a dynamic, energetic, and innovative individual to help develop and implement our communications and social media strategy.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to assist a recognized non-governmental organization with an ambitious, forward-looking agenda. The intern will work closely with PGS staff and its professional communications consultant and will gain an understanding of how a small nonprofit organization operates. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to the new PGS communications strategy and help develop its relationships with external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- A commitment to work 10 – 15 hours per week
- Assist with the design and implementation of a new PGS communications strategy
- Assist in planning, writing and distributing a topical newsletter, and assisting with other content, such as commentaries, blogs, and press releases
- Maintain the PGS Constant Contact email list
- Update the PGS website when needed, and develop creative and innovative content
- Collaborate with staff on new ideas, distribution strategies and methods to engage the public
- Monitor and help manage the PGS Twitter account @PGSnuclear and other social media platforms when needed
Qualifications
- Self-motivated, detailed-oriented individual with a strong interest in the organization’s agenda and goals
- Outstanding verbal and writing communication skills; experience in strategic communications and social media management preferred
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office; knowledge of Constant Contact and WordPress preferred
- Ability to work independently and respond quickly to direction

Della Ratta Fellowship
The Partnership for Global Security (PGS) is seeking candidates for the Della Ratta Global Energy and Security Fellowship. The selection will be of one and possibly two fellows depending on the quality of the applicants. This is a six-month stipend-supported position. The applicant’s term will run from January-June 2025.
The Della Ratta Fellowship is a unique opportunity for early career candidates to develop the skills and experience that are necessary for a rapidly evolving technological, security, and geopolitical environment. The primary focus is on addressing the intensifying intersection of nuclear energy and commerce, climate change, global security, geopolitics, and international energy security. This is a policy-focused fellowship, and applicants must have demonstrated experience in the ability to perform crosscutting work that integrates a wide variety of issues and disciplines into cohesive and insightful analysis.
The fellow will contribute to the work of an internationally recognized non-governmental organization with an ambitious, forward-looking agenda.
Responsibilities
Provide research, implementation, and communications support for the following.
- Projects on the intersection of nuclear energy and commerce, climate change, geopolitics, and global and energy security.
- Analyses of nuclear newcomer nations for nuclear power deployment.
- Analyses of nuclear governance evolutions required to support advanced nuclear reactor safeguards and security.
- Contributions to the production of the Nuclear News and Views bi-weekly newsletter.
- Summarizing and drafting issue updates, memos, presentations, and related activities.
- Supporting the development of presentations, visuals, and analysis on PGS’ issue areas.
- Providing social media, website management, and related administrative support.
- Supporting the planning and organization of primarily on-line meetings, including drafting agendas and invitations, and event execution.
Position Details
- This is a $15,000 stipend-supported six-month position. There are no fringe benefits.
- The fellowship is fully remote work.
- PGS is unable to support international students requiring U.S. work visas.
- U.S. and international applicants are encouraged to apply.
- PGS is committed to providing the successful candidate with significant hands-on experience that will be career-enhancing and facilitate the transition to more senior positions post-employment.
- Fellowship terms run from January-June and July-December.

Qualifications
- Previous professional work experience, including internship experience, in the core research areas identified in the responsibilities section.
- A demonstrated commitment to the PGS multi-disciplinary agenda.
- Ability and willingness to think outside the traditional issue silos (including nonproliferation and nuclear security) to focus on understanding and explaining how new global dynamics and technologies are impacting the modern nuclear landscape.
- Collegial and self-motivated work ethic.
- Attention to detail and ability to effectively work independently.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international affairs, political science, regional studies, energy policy, or other relevant areas of study.
- Strong administrative skills with the ability to plan, organize, and cheerfully follow direction.
- Demonstration of strong writing, research, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Experience using Microsoft 365 programs is essential (proficiency with PowerPoint is important).
- Experience with data analysis and analytical tools (Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Excel) is a plus.
- Experience with event planning and coordination is welcome.

Scoville Fellowship
PGS is also a sponsoring organization for The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship.
The Scoville fellowship was established in 1987 to provide college graduates with the opportunity to gain a Washington perspective on key issues of peace and security.
Twice yearly, the Fellowship’s Board of Directors selects a small group of outstanding individuals to spend six months in Washington. Supported by a monthly stipend, the Fellows serve as full-time project assistants at the participating organization of their choice. In the Program’s first fourteen years, seventy-seven Fellowships have been awarded.
Scoville Fellows, through independent projects and active participation with their chosen organization and the larger community dedicated to peace and security issues, have rich opportunities to gain experience and leadership skills and to help translate their social concerns into direct action. In addition, each Fellow selects a board member to serve as a mentor and mentor, smoothing the transition to Washington, DC.
Scoville Fellows are selected from an international pool of distinguished applicants. Prospective Fellows are expected to demonstrate excellent academic accomplishments and a strong interest in issues of peace and security. Graduate study, a college major, course work, or substantial independent reading that reflects the substantive focus of the fellowship is also a plus. Prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy is highly desirable. It is preferred, but not required, that such activities be focused on peace and security issues.
The goals of the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship program are to:
- provide a unique educational experience to outstanding individuals who might otherwise not have the opportunity to work on peace and security issues in Washington, DC;
- develop leadership skills that can serve the Fellow throughout a career in the peace and security field or related areas of public service;
- contribute to the critically important work of the participating nonprofit, public-interest organizations; and
- continue the work of Herbert Scoville, Jr. by encouraging young people to contribute to this field.
